Public Relations’ 8 Fix Factors

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

I say to business, non-profit and association managers, a key part of your job description is — or should be — do everything you can to help your organization’s public relations effort as it strives to persuade important outside stakeholders to your way of thinking. Especially when it’s YOUR PR program that is tasked to move those stakeholders to behaviors that lead to the success of YOUR department or division.

Which is why I suggest that business, non-profit and association managers embrace what I call PR’s 8 fix factors, those steps necessary to prepare their public relations operation for the battles certain to lie ahead.

The fix factors are based on this fundamental premise: People act on their own perception of the facts before them, which leads to predictable behaviors about which something can be done. When we create, change or reinforce that opinion by reaching, persuading and moving-to-desired-action the very people whose behaviors affect the organization the most, the public relations mission is accomplished.

Fix Factor 1

For starters, I caution Mr/Ms Kontaktanzeigen Bremen that you may find yourself data-challenged should you be unaware of just HOW most members of that key outside audience perceive your organization.

Has anyone sat down and listed those external audiences whose behaviors could hurt your unit badly? Then prioritized them according to the impacts they have on your operation? A necessary first step in creating the right public relations objective because, while behavior is the goal, and a host of communications tactics are the tools, our strategy is the Livesex provided by key audience perception. Sometimes called public opinion.

Fix Factor 2

Lets take a look at the audience you place at the top of your prioritized target audience list. Because there could be negative perceptions out there, someone must interact with members of that audience and ask a number of questions. Do you know anything about our organization? Have you had any kind of contact with our people? Have you heard anything good or bad about us or our services and products? Watch respondents closely for hesitant or evasive answers. And stay alert for inaccuracies, rumors, untruths or misconceptions.

Fix Factor 3

Here, fortunately, you have a choice. You and your PR staff can interact with members of that target audience yourselves, which seems appropriate since your PR folks are already in the perception and behavior business. Or, if budget is available, you can hire professional survey counsel to do the work for you.

What are you hearing during your perception monitoring sessions? Misconceptions that need straightening out? Rumors that should not be allowed to fester? Inaccurate beliefs about your products or services that could drive people away from you? Do you notice other perceptions about your organization that need to be altered?

Fix Factor 4

The responses gathered by this kind of perception monitoring among members of the target audience provides just what you need to establish your public relations goal — the specific perception to be altered.

You might start with a straightforward goal like clearing up that misconception, correcting that inaccuracy or replacing a perceived untruth with the truth.

Fix Factor 5

Now, the right strategy sends the public relations program off to a good start because it shows you how to proceed towards your goal. Luckily, there are just three strategic choices for dealing with matters of opinion and perception. You can create perception/opinion where there may not be any, you can change existing opinion, or you can reinforce it. An effort should be made to match the strategy to the public relations goal you selected. Obviously, if you want to correct a misconception, you would use the strategy that changes existing opinion, not one that reinforces it.

Fix Factor 6

Here, there is a little more work to do in the form of the message that, hopefully, will alter people’s inaccurate perceptions of you and the organization.

Some serious writing is needed here. The corrective message to be communicated to members of the target audience is an opportunity to write something designed to change individual opinion, and that’s a positive experience for any writer.

Clarity is first, followed closely by accuracy and believability. Stick closely to the issue at hand — like that inaccurate belief, misconception or dangerous rumor. A compelling tone is useful because the message must alter what a lot of people believe, and that is a big job. Tryout the message on some colleagues for effectiveness.

Keep in mind that your message must be believable and that rather than delivering it in a high-profile news announcement, you may want to make the message part of another general interest release, presentation or address.

Fix Factor 7

Now you must throw that message to receivers in the end-zone or, continuing this scintillating mixture of metaphors, every bullet needs a gun to fire it at the target. Which brings us to the stable housing our beasts of burden — the communications tactics whose job it is to carry your message to the attention of those key target audience members.

Fortunately, there are many, many such tactics ranging from luncheons, news releases and personal contacts to print and broadcast interviews, speeches, press releases and dozens of others. Only requirement is that they have a proven track record for reaching your target audience.

Fix Factor 8

Soon, associates (and others) will inquire whether any progress is being made in altering the offending perception or opinion. If you’ve ruled out pricey survey counsel, your best hope of assessing that progress is a return to the field for a second perception monitoring session.

Yes, you and your PR team will ask the same questions as you did in the initial monitoring session. But this time, you’ll be looking for evidence in the responses that the offending perception is finally being altered. You need to see and hear signs that perceptions are actually moving in your direction.

That tells you that positive behaviors by your key external stakeholders cannot be far behind.

Grow Your Business - 10 Simple Marketing Tools

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Whether you’re a new start-up or an established small business, effective marketing plays a key role in your success. In order to extend your reach and access to as many potential customers as possible, it’s important to implement as many marketing tools as you can. While you might be doing quite well through writing articles or through public speaking, you can actually do much better by adding a few more techniques to your toolkit. Not only will it be a great learning experience, it will also create more visibility and credibility - the two things you must have to build a successful business. As a marketing expert, I advise my clients to implement low or no cost options first. You would be surprised at how many things you can do to build your business - and all without spending a dime! All of my suggestions will help you to do just that.

1. Write and publish articles. Writing an article is one of the quickest ways to establish yourself as an expert. The power of the written word is awesome. If you’re a fairly decent writer, who can craft a well-organized article filled with meaningful content, you’re on your way to establishing a relationship with potential customers. You can publish your articles online through free services like www.topten.org or www.goarticles.com, or submit them to local newspapers or magazines. You can even give them out to people you meet.

2. Use assessments and surveys. Assessments and surveys are the perfect way to build awareness about you and your business. If you use a free survey tool like www.surveymonkey.com, you can send out a survey to your mailing list. You can ask for opinions on your current products and services while at the same time inquiring about geiler sex new things people would like to see. Keep surveys short and to the point. They’re a great way to get back in front of folks who you might not have contacted for a while or a great conversation opener with people you’ve never met before.

3. Write an e-course. Writing an e-course is a wonderful way to promote your business, while Frauen Baden-Württemberg value to your current or prospective customers. In the simplest terms, an e-course is a series of e-mails that are delivered at pre-defined intervals which contain valuable content around a specific topic. E-courses consist of “lessons” which are loaded into autoresponders which automatically e-mail the lessons to your opt-in list. Not only will you be able to provide valuable content to readers over a specific period of time, but you’ll continually remind them of who you are and what you do.

4. Upgrade your e-mail signature. Your email signature is more important than you might think. At first consideration, you might see your email signature in its traditional role - just your name - identifying you as the sender of an email. At its best, an email signature can play a strategic role in your marketing effort as yet another way to reach out and make connections with current and potential clients. An email signature should be considered as a part of your branding initiative. Each component part, from your name to your address, from your website to the color and type of font you use, should be thought about and arranged appropriately to communicate who you are to the world. And, what a great way to continually advertise your business - every time you send or respond to an email!

5. Offer a free or fee teleclass. What do you do in your business? What problems do you solve for your customers or clients? Think about the value that you offer and distill it into five to seven key speaking points. Offer information that can help someone with a problem or issue they’re experiencing. Provide useful references to books, websites or other resources. Teleclasses are a great way for people to experience who you are. They can hear your voice, ask questions, and interact with you. Not only can you establish yourself as an expert while providing valuable and useful information to participants, but at the same time you’ll be establishing relationships with people who may contact you in the future.

6. Create an R & D team. Starting your own research and development team is a great way to develop new relationships which can turn into future clients and customers. Essentially it is a group of people who you invite to give you feedback around your business, products, services, processes, or anything else you wish to run by them. To compensate them for taking the time to provide valuable feedback you can use to develop and grow your business, you might consider giving them discounts on your services, free reports or articles, or other special thank-you gifts. By involving a group of people so closely with what you are doing with your business, you increase the chances of converting them to customers in the future.

7. Form a mastermind group. A mastermind group is a formal or informal group of people who meet on a regular basis to share ideas and to support each other in achieving personal and professional goals. Consider forming a group consisting of 7 to 10 small business owners who meet either in person or via teleconference one hour per week. Not only will you get to know about several other businesses, you’ll be educating everyone about yours. Taking the time to build relationships with groups like this can lead to direct business or referrals later on.

8. Create a newsletter. An electronic newsletter or ezine is a great way to create visibility on a regular basis. The key to a successful ezine is in providing valuable content and resources, while keeping it short and to the point. It should be easily read in 2 to 3 minutes max. People are busy and you want to make your contact with them count. Sending an ezine once per month is adequate; any more often and you will risk losing subscribers. Don’t forget to send your ezine only to people who specifically register or opt-in to receive it.

9. Speak up. Speaking for free or for a fee is a wonderful way to increase your visibility and credibility. On par with the written word, public speaking is a great way for potential customers to experience you first hand. Offer to speak wherever and whenever you can. Call up the rotary club, optimist club, chamber of commerce, and any other organizations in your local area. They are always looking for dynamic speakers to fill up their meeting schedules. It is a great way to meet people and possibly develop relationships that will lead to new business.

10. Offer a complimentary consultation. Give a little bit of your time to prospects that show interest in the possibility of working with you in the future. By showing them who you are, sharing a little of your expertise, and giving them a taste of your customer service orientation, you may be making their decision to buy from you a lot easier. Even if they don’t end up working with you, their positive experience may be something they share with others - possibly leading to some future referral business.

Everything About Moog Synthesizers

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

The range of Moog synthesizers was invented by Dr. Robert Moog around 1966. These synthesizers are large modular ones with quite a few distinct modules connected together by several patch cords, which would route sounds created by oscillators through a set-up of filters and effects. This structure enables the instrument to provide unprecedented flexibility in sound design thereby making the Moog Synthesizer an icon of electronic music culture.

In this decidedly digital age, more and more contemporary musicians and rockers are rediscovering the analog sounds of the Moog synthesizer. Dr. Robert Moog, the inventor started the company Moog Music, initially known as R.A. Moog Co. that manufactured and marketed these synthesizers.

The first Moog instruments were modular synthesizers. In 1971 Moog Music began production of the Minimoog Model D that was among the first extensively available, handy and relatively inexpensive synthesizers. The Moog synthesizers were designed in collaboration with the composers Herbert Teensex Deutsch, and Wendy Carlos.

Another feather in the cap of the Moog range of synthesizers was the Taurus bass pedal synthesizer that came in 1975. Much like the organ pedals its pedals triggered synthetic bass sounds. The Taurus was known for a “fat” bass sound and was used by the bands Genesis, Rush, Electric Light Orchestra, Yes, Pink Floyd and many others. The modern version of it is known as the Taurus II.

According to the American Physical Society, “The first live performance of a music synthesizer was made by pianist Paul Bley at Lincoln Center in New York City on December 26, 1969. Bley developed a proprietary interface that allowed real-time performance on the music synthesizer.”

The Moog synthesizer reached its first zenith of popularity in the late 1960s with the success of Carlos’ Switched-On Bach. Actually Wendy Carlos’s 1968 album “Switched-On Bach,” a collection of synthesized interpretations of Bach classics, was the synthesizer’s first commercial success, selling more than 1 million copies. It enthused other musicians and bands to follow suit and accordingly many albums tried to get the name of Moog incorporated into their album names as well, for example Country Moog Classics, Martin Denny’s Exotic Moog, etc.

In the present day several Moog products can still be purchased, such as Moogerfoogers, Little Phatty, and Minimoogs. In fact the Minimoog is very popular as they sell for over US$3000 on online auction sites on a regular basis.

In spite of the fact that the Moog Music created so much uproar in the electronic music industry with the Moog synthesizer, yet it failed to survive for long. Later companies like the Arp and Roland took up the onus on themselves to continue in the lines of the Moog as they developed the instrument and came up with other prototypes. As days passed the Moog became all the more sophisticated and affordable.

The last Moog synthesizers were manufactured in 1985 before the original Moog Music declared bankruptcy in 1986. Porno Girls the mid 1990s, analog synthesizers were again highly sought after and prized for their classic sound. In 2001, Robert Moog’s company Big Briar was able to acquire the rights to the Moog name and officially became Moog Music. Moog Music has been producing the Minimoog Voyager modeled after the original Minimoog since 2002. As of 2006, more than 15 companies are making Moog-style synthesizer modules.

Linking for Fun and Profit

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Well actually, linking isn’t fun at all. In fact, it’s quite tedious. Seeking, responding to requests and adding links takes time and effort. But, if you’re not actively building links the RIGHT way you are going to be left behind. In other words, your site will be “Lost in Cyberspace”. The plain fact is Google, and to a lesser extent, other Pornostar search engines, reward sites with links from relevant and important pages.

If you want your site to deliver lots of targeted search engine traffic (and who doesn’t?) there are two equally important factors:

1) lots of keyword-rich, search engine friendly content
2) lots of relevant, incoming links from the RIGHT sources

For real success you need to cover BOTH of these strategies. Don’t concentrate on one and not the other.

So, how do you go about building your links? It’s not rocket science, but as I said, it does take time and effort. From my own experiences, here’s what you should do:

1) Download and install the Google Toolbar:

http://toolbar.google.com/

This will show you the PageRank of the page you are viewing. PageRank is a measure, rated from 1 to 10, of the “importance” that Google gives to that page. There has been a lot written about PageRank. You don’t need to become obsessed with it but it IS an important consideration when determining WHO to link to. A link from a PR-5 page is worth FAR more than a PR-0 page.

2) Establish a resource or links directory for your site. This lets potential link partners see that you are willing to exchange links. You should make it clear on your links pages what your linking policy is i.e. under what conditions you will agree to exchange links.

3) Your aim should be to build a resource directory that is relevent to your business. Don’t try to build a mini Yahoo with umpteen different categories. Keep your directory focussed on your site theme. When you first start out you will be inclined to link to anybody in exchange for a link FROM anybody. This is a mistake. Be patient and choose your link partners carefully.

4) Before requesting a link from another site, add that site to your directory. Contact the webmaster and tell them you added their link because you believe their site would be of interest to your visitors (and so it should). Give the url where your link is located and ask for a return link, along with instructions on how you would like your link worded. NEVER demand by saying things like “if you do not link to us we will remove your link”.

5) If you have not received a reply after 2 - 3 weeks send a polite follow up. Again, don’t demand. No one is under any obligation to link to you. If you do not receive a reply to your second request it means that the webmaster does not want to link to you, or they are simply too busy to respond. In that case, leave it and move on. I receive dozens of link requests a day. Sometimes it takes me many weeks to get around to responding. You’ll go mad worrying about links that have not been reciprocated. Your time is better spent.

6) When you receive a link request visit the site and check that it meets with your requirements as set down on your link pages. Is it a quality site with good content or just a “link farm”? If it doesn’t meet your requirements don’t link to it.

The webmaster SHOULD have already linked to your site but be prepared to overlook that breech of linking protocol if it’s from a good quality, high sex site.

7) Beware of webmasters who add your site to their “directory” which turns out to nothing but a link farm i.e. has no useful content, just a bunch of links, and asks you to link to an entirely different site, one that HAS good content. These webmasters are playing you for a sucker. The benefit is all theirs.

8) As I said in point #1, links from high PR pages are worth more than links from low or no PR pages. Seek out high PR linking partners but keep in mind it is the PR of the actual page your link is on that matters, NOT the PR of the home page. In other words if the home page PR is 5, but the page your link is on is several layers deep in the directory, it will probably have a PR of 0 and be of little benefit to you. Check the PR of the actual page your link is on, or is going to be on, before agreeing to exchange links.

Each page on your links directory should be no more than one click away from your home page, and your linking partner’s site should be the same. If your link is placed on a page which looks something like this - directory/category/subcategory/subcategory with your link - you will derive NO value from that link.

9) Be prepared to negotiate your links. Savvy webmasters understand the value of links from high PR pages. If you add a link to a PR-0 page on your site don’t expect your link partner to put your link on a PR-6 page, and your link partner shouldn’t expect the same from you. Exchange value for like value.

When you first start out your site may not have any PR due to a lack of incoming links. This reduces your bargaining power. However, you can overcome this by getting your site listed in as many large business directories as possible. Some of these you will have to pay, such as Yahoo and Microsoft’s Business Directory, but many others are free. You’ll find a good list here:

http://www.strongestlinks.com/directories.php

10) Be specific about how you want your link partner to link to you. It is MOST important that the link to you contain your targeted keywords in the anchor (linked) text. When I ask for a link to my site I don’t want the link title to be:

Steve Pronger Web Business Solutions

Instead, I ask for:

Website Designer Australia

or whichever keywords I am targeting at the time.

11) And finally, here is an excellent resource to help you find quality link partners. It’s called Value Exchange, and will put you in contact with like-minded webmasters:
